The movie "Contact" features the interactions of two individuals with strong, but opposing, convictions: Dr. Ellie Arroway, the empirical scientist, and Palmer Joss, a man of the cloth ("without the cloth"). One example of this is during the Larry King interview, when Palmer asks "Is the world fundamentally a better place because of science and technology?" This conflict between science and faith is one of the underlying threads throughout the film, and is the basis of the final interactions between the main characters. After our studies of the universe, and our discussions concerning science and belief, and after watching the film, what do you think? Is there a place for both science and faith, or are they destined to be always at odds with each other?
