MTSU ITF CONFERENCE
Select an activity from the links below.
When done with the associated
activity worksheet - "publish to global view" - and then view the report
as its formulated on the presenters laptop (i.e. The Global Canvas) which
is presumably connected to the projector.
We recommend using Firefox for this software.
Example uses of this system. Each numbered exercise has its own worksheet
and associated report view. You can close the worksheet after you have
submitted it. In this workshop session we will go through the 10 exercises below,
one by one. This should fully demonstrate the various dimensions of this system.
For all of the following exercises please only click on the student client links
and not the global canvas. In normal instructional use, the students in class or
on the beach don't have access to the global canvas link, for obvious reasons.
- Student Client: Essay Activity
(type in some words - publish them)
Global Canvas
- Student Client: Good Cop/Bad Cop (Use
a speed of 60 mph for this demo). Make one measurement and then publish to global view.
Global Canvas
- Student Client:
Construct
your expression of Tennessee with this language (drag and drop runs into
place holders and publish when done)
Global Canvas
- Student Client: Left click mouse and draw
the path of the Missouri River on the map (publish to global view when done)
Global Canvas
- Student Client: Melt
the Polar Caps (adjust the parameters; hit the take one small step forward
button when done; then publish your model after you have run a few time steps)
Global Canvas
- Student Client: Virtual Lab Activity
(Change the temperature; slider on left; hit the record button; when done with
a few measurements - "publish")
Global Canvas
- Student Client: Example
Spread Sheet Activity fill it out partially and publish.
Global Canvas
- Student Client: Railway Car
Simulation and Download
the worksheet
Global Canvas
- Google Earth Exercise:
Wind Farm Measurements
Global Canvas
- Google Maps Exercise: University of Portland
Global Canvas
The above should give you a flavor of how this system works. I have been using
it for 6 years now without any technical difficulties.
Note there are two types of global canvas(es) - a database
canvas and a session canvas. The session canvas only captures stuff in a single session
and does not archive it to a database. The database canvas writes to a database.
This is what is used for homework submissions. Now that the system is mature, most all of
the applications now write
the records to a permanent data base.
