Arrogance or Humility
In the last part of the course we introduced Quantum Mechanics
as part of the toolkit that the physicist can use to view the world.
Fundamental to quantum mechanics are three broad issues:
- reality is uncertain
- anything is possible but with varying levels of probability of
occurence
- physical phenomena are somehow defined by the questions we ask (this
is the quantum measurement problem)
Based on the material presented in this course write a 1000--1200 word essay
on this set of connected questions.
Which aspects of our historical view of nature lead to a collective aarogance
on how we treat nature? How might the broad principles of QM serve to
temper this collective aarogance? What is preventing our evolution from
collective aarogance to collective humility?
