A New Energy Economy ?

We clearly need one, but what will it be based on:

• Fossil fuels in the form of Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) this is the current plan

• A completely distributed system of renewable energies, with regional optimization, and biofuels? is this possible to achieve entirely with US resources?

• Forced conservation through consumption taxes to extend our existing energy economy?

• Transitioning to the Hydrogen Economy

But at present, the US is totally screwed in terms of having any kind of buffer in our present oil-driven economy:

In principle, that buffer is provided by the Strategic Petroleum Reserve:

In reality, the SPR is anything but strategic.

The total capacity of the US SPR is 717 Million barells; If all sources of world oil production shut down, then, at current usage levels, this can supply us with oil for about 2 months. BFD
