Physics 101: Virtual Lab 2

University of Oregon Department of Physics

Open the simulation and refer to the below for further instructions.

Introduction to Lab

This lab is designed to introduce you to motion in one dimension. The variables involved in this kind of motion are Position (P), velocity (v), and acceleration (a). The relation between these variables as a function of time (t) is:

Where the subscript o refers to initial values

Instructions

  1. Set p=0,v=10,a=0 and hit run
  2. The position vs time (X-axis) and velocity vs time graphs are being populated as the cow is moving.
  3. Read off these graphs with the cursor to determine the position of the cow at 3 and 5 seconds and verify these values using the formula
  4. Record all your results and answers using the Lab Notebook link

Questions to Answer

Set p=5,v=5, a=1

  1. Determine the position and velocity of the cow at t=3 seconds and verify these values
  2. Set p = 0 and determine values for v and a which will cause the cow to turn around when it gets to the right hand side of the screen (p=60)
  3. For theses values show that the total travel time of the cow makes sense.

In the launcher that you just activated click once on the "untitled" worksheet to open it. That will be your worksheet that you use to record the data. When done, submit your worksheet by clicking on the words "publish to global view" (the first item under reporting tasks).
