In the last few years, the European Union (EU) has made substantial strides in increasing their renewable energy portfolios. This effort is largely led by the UK and Germany and both have now successfully installed the World's largest off shore wind farms, one of which is a floating wind farm

Well part of this effort is related to goal of being greener, some of this development is being done to reduce EU country reliance on Natural Gas coming from Russia (through the Ukraine).

Currently, the EU is in the situation were virtually all NEW power is coming from renewable sources. Legacy sources like Coal are waning fast.
