For the most part, computing is still following Moore's Law and the inevitable switch from electrons to photons as the bit carriers in processors (e.g. optical processors) will sustain this trajectory for some time.

Likely by the year 2020 you will be able to purchase a laptop with as much processing power as 10% of your brain (or 3% of Ben's brain).



In addition, machines, in terms of FLOPS, continue to increase with the current practical limit set by the electrical power bill. Once again, when optical processors replace electronic circuits, FLOPS can continue unabated.
